The Leyland cypress is an evergreen plant of the Cupressaceae family, native to North America but widely used as an ornamental plant in the Mediterranean basin. It is an intergeneric hybrid between Cupressus macrocarpa and Callitropsis nootkatensis created for ornamental reasons since its characteristic morphology, its ability to grow very quickly, its density, height and color make it suitable for use as a hedge or for screening.
